
The Flyers kicked off the new season by taking round 1 of the “Battle of Pa” with the Penguins by the score of 6-3. Mark Jankowski (1) opened the scoring to give the Penguins their only lead of the night at 1-0. Power play goals by James van Riemsdyk (1), and Nolan Patrick (1) gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead after one. Sidney Crosby (1) tied it 2-2 early in the second. Joel Farabee made it 3-2 Flyers late in the second. The Penguins tied it 3-3 on a goal by Brandon Tanev (1). Michael Raffl put the Flyers up 4-3 just two and a half minutes later. Travis Konecny (1), and Kevin Hayes (1) scored twenty seconds apart to put the Flyers up 6-3. Thanks to the NHL had to schedule the season the Penguins and Flyers will meet for round two on Friday night.
